On February 16, 1986, Mike Tyson (17-0, 17 KOs) was marauding through the heavyweight division.

He then came up against Jesse Ferguson (14-1, 10 KOs) at the Houston Field House, Troy, New York, in what was the longest time “Iron Mike” had spent in the ring.

Tyson started fast, throwing thudding, spiteful hooks and two big uppercuts, which snapped Ferguson’s head back. The underdog fought much of the opening round with his back against the ropes. Round two was again one-sided, with Tyson throwing heavy shots at his opponent. Ferguson had his best moment in round three, landing a nice combination, but “Iron Mike” was still outworking his opponent for the majority.

“Thunder” was warned in round four for excessive holding, which suggested he was struggling with the pressure from Tyson. After the bell sounded for the end of the fourth round, Ferguson threw a couple of late punches, which unsurprisingly prompted “Iron Mike” to retaliate, with both fighters separated.

Round 5 showed how Tyson could adapt when needed, as he stepped back to negate Ferguson closing the distance. “Iron Mike” floored his opponent with an uppercut – right to the body combination, which broke Ferguson’s nose. The Philadelphia fighter beat the count and somehow survived the rest of the round amidst a brutal onslaught from Tyson.

Round Six KO

Round six began with Ferguson trying to control the distance with his jab before Tyson backed him up again before landing a flurry of heavy shots to the head. Ferguson received another warning for holding before immediately holding again, not allowing the referee to break them up. Following this, the referee had seen enough and waved the fight off. The fight was later ruled a TKO win for “Iron Mike.”

In his post-fight interview with the legendary Jim Lampley, “Iron Mike” said: “I never get frustrated, because I know we have a ten-round limit and the crop of heavyweights nowadays have a little difficulty going the full ten rounds. The way they have it planned in their mind to beat me is to jab, potshot, and grab me, but it’s ten rounds, and eventually, I’m going to catch them.”

Tyson went on to have a memorable and more than eventful career, which saw him break many records and perform impressively throughout his career, including his destruction of Michael Spinks.

Tyson was approached by Ngannou ahead of his crossover fight against Fury last October.

He told Mail Sport, ‘How many times do you really get to be involved in an immortal event.’

‘How many times in my life will I be able to do something like this.

‘Some of the magnitude. So, of course I would want to be involved in this and say yes to being a part of this.’

Heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson has heaped praise on pound-for-pound superstar and current unified welterweight champion Terence Crawford, but the now 57-year-old has highlighted the one stumbling block in the way of ‘Bud’ becoming an all-time-great.

Crawford extended his record to 40-0 when he dominated and stopped long-term rival and fellow 147lb champion Errol Spence Jr to become undisputed welterweight champion and the first multi-divisional undisputed champion since the dawn of the four-belt era.

Unfortunately for the American, he has yet to step through the ropes since and as a result some fans felt he was pipped to the Fighter of the Year accolade by Naoya Inoue, despite the generational performance of Crawford.

The undefeated southpaw has now also been stripped of his IBF world title, with Jaron Ennis assuming the title, a decision which could prompt a move to super-welterweight or even super-middleweight after astonishing whispers of a clash with Canelo Alvarez.

In an interview with DAZN, Mike Tyson explained that despite Crawford’s success inside the ropes, to be a true all-time-great you need to become a superstar that can fill up arenas.

“Listen, this is the situation, this is the only argument against that [Crawford being an all-time-great], you know what makes people great fighters? Filling the arenas.

“Spence brought the people there. He [Crawford] is a master fighter but he has to get to the essence of fighting and that is excitement, bringing the people.

“He has got to keep beating people but he beats people too easily too. That could hurt him financially. I started making more money after Buster [Douglas] beat me, because people started saying ‘there is a possibility that he can get beat now’.”

Crawford has also been linked to a showdown with Teofimo Lopez, but the WBO super-lightweight champion’s below-par display last week could’ve put an end to those talks.

“Mike Tyson vs. Fedor Emelianenko boxing match negotiations are underway and targeted for later this year in Saudi Arabia,” wrote MMA Pack. Fedor Emelianenko, a 47-year-old Russian mixed martial artist, last fought in the Octagon in February 2023, while 57-year-old Tyson had his last appearance in the ring on November 29, 2020, against Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition fight. Emelianenko holds a 41-7-1 MMA record compared to Mike’s 50-6-0 professional boxing record.

After losing to Ryan Bader at Bellator 290, Emelianenko emphasized the end of his career in MMA. However, he did not mean combat sports in general because now the MMA legend wants to take on Mike Tyson in a boxing match. He spoke about the same in an interview with the MMA Hour.

A fight between them isn’t totally out of the question since Mike had previously expressed his desire to get back in the ring for the right amount of money. And given the fact that Tyson has an enormous following, people would clamor to buy the tickets for his fight. What’s more, Emelianenko also had a date in mind for the fight.

He added, “I heard that Mike Tyson is going to help Francis Ngannou to prepare for (his Fury fight), so he’s probably in good shape too,” said Emelianenko.

A lot of boxers fail to keep making the headlines after they hang up their gloves, but not Mike Tyson. ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ has turned his boxing fame into a successful cannabis business and an insanely popular podcast. The former heavyweight champion has hosted numerous big names from sports and entertainment in his podcast, Hotboxin with Mike Tyson. However, the podcast has recently been put on hold, leaving fans to wonder why.

Recently, the retired boxing legend launched a new line of cannabis products. Likewise, he showed up for an exclusive interview with Bryan Salmond. However, the conversation quickly diverted to his podcast. While appearing in an interview, ‘Iron’ Mike shed light on the reason behind the hiatus from his podcast.

The reporter questioned whether Mike was still involved in his Hotboxin podcast, nearing the end of the interview. In response, ‘Iron’ Mike claimed the podcast was on a hiatus. “We are on Hiatus. [We’ll get a bunch of repeats and stuff]” Tyson revealed. Following Mike’s hiatus claim, the reporter questioned how much he was enjoying making the podcast.

In response, Mike Tyson remarked on the reason he took a break from the podcast, claiming he was going with the flow. “Hey, listen, I am just going with the flow. I am passing through here, enjoying everything,” Tyson told Bryan Salmond. On a separate note, when Mike’s podcast is the topic of discussion, how can anyone forget when he choked attempting Wiz Khalifa’s kush-up challenge.

Mike’s love for cannabis is no secret. Besides running a massive cannabis empire, Mike has expressed disappointment about not smoking during his boxing career. However, back in April, during his podcast featuring Wiz Khalifa, Mike choked while attempting a challenge from Khalifa. What’s the challenge?

As Wiz mentioned in the clip, the challenge involves inhaling ten puffs of smoke one after the other without exhaling. So, Mike, who never backs down from a challenge, attempted the challenge, but after two puffs, the former heavyweight began choking. He went as far as to jokingly declare, “Oh god, help me!”

While appearing in an interview promoting his new cannabis product, Mike Tyson revealed the real reason for taking a break from his popular podcast. However, we would like to get your thoughts on the break from Hotboxing. Have you been waiting for the next episode?

Melvin Townsend, the man punched by Mike Tyson on a plane in April 2022, is seeking $450,000 in damages from the boxer. Townsend’s attorney told TMZ that his client has been dealing with various injuries since the attack, “including a concussion, cervical radiculopathy, and impaired vision.”

Mike Tyson’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, dismissed the lawsuit as a “shakedown” and stated that “absolutely no payment will be forthcoming.”

The incident occurred on a Jet Blue flight back in April 2022 after Townsend reportedly threw a water bottle at Tyson and repeatedly annoyed him.

Prosecutors declined to file criminal charges against Tyson in May 2022, citing “the conduct of the victim leading up to the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of both the victim and Mr. Tyson.”
