Breast milk has so many benefits, and not all of them are just for baby!

Tennis legend and mom of two Serena Williams recently stirred up conversation on TikTok about some of the lesser-known benefits of breast milk—including its ability to possibly heal sunburnt skin.

Standing in her bathroom fresh-faced and wearing a black sports bra, Wiliams started off the video noting that she “completely got burned under my eye,” adding that she had sensitive skin. “I was in the sun … long story. Anyway, I’m trying some breast milk. It works for my kid — they say put breast milk on everything, and I have a lot extra, so I’m gonna try it for a week or so under my eye and see how it goes,” she said in the video. Right after application, Williams noted that it “already felt better” and that she would let viewers know how it went over the next week

In the caption, Williams wrote, “OK is this totally weird??? I have to say after a week of using MY breast milk under my eye — it worked! I’m dying to hear your thoughts.” Parents and fans rushed to share their thoughts and experiences in the comments.

“Yes ma’am. 40 years ago I used it as a facial when bathing. Miracle milk,” one fan wrote in the comments. “I gave a friend some of my breast milk to make bar soap for me to use on my son’s eczema. Was a wild concept to get my head around, but it worked,” shared another mom. Others lauded other therapies like castor oil for helping with burns and dark circles.

Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, welcomed their second daughter, Adira River Ohanian, on August 22. Since then, the mom of two has opened up about all the raw moments of motherhood, from breastfeeding to building back up her strength post-delivery.
