Within the boxing circles, hushed speculations have circulated, suggesting that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champion, is hesitant to face American contender David Benavidez. The mounting pressure indicates that Alvarez might be left with no choice but to confront Benavidez, raising the stakes for a potential showdown.

However, lingering doubts persist about whether Alvarez will find another pretext to evade the match. Oscar De La Hoya has stirred excitement in the boxing world by proposing Jaime Munguia as the next opponent for Canelo Alvarez. According to the ‘Golden Boy’, this matchup has the potential to be a savior for Mexican boxing. So, David Benavidez has also announced his next opponent if Alvarez goes for Munguia instead of him.
David Benavidez has finally broken his silence on people claiming that Canelo Alvarez has achieved enough to prove his might in the sport. Benavidez stated that if Canelo has nothing to prove in the super-middleweight division, he should relinquish his belts as well. But if he keeps the belts, he’ll have to fight him.
Speaking to ProBox TV, he said, “I know people say, ‘He’s done enough’ and ‘He doesn’t need to fight’, so why does he have all the belts? He should just do celebrity boxing matches. Why is he still holding the belts hostage and not giving the #1 contenders the opportunities they deserve?” Furthermore, he continued, “When the WBC mandated him to fight Avni Yildirim, he jumped on it quick. You owe it to the people, let’s give the people what they wanna see.
But he doesn’t expect Alvarez to pick him as his next opponent, and for that, he’s already decided on the name for his next bout.

In the same interview, David Benavidez talked about the potential fight between Alvarez and Jaime Munguia, and how this would make him mad. He’s been trying to get a fight with Alvarez for a long time now.

But he still tried to devise a plan on what he would do if ‘Cinnamon’ eventually decided to take on Munguia next. He said, “I’ll probably talk to Al Haymon and see if we could probably get that Charlo fight because like you said I don’t think Canelo’s going to fight me next, maybe in September. So maybe if we get Charlo in there in the beginning of the next year and then we get Canelo for September, I think that would be a great move on our part.
